This program is funded through a 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant that is provided by the Georgia Department of Education. All after school programs in Douglas County School System are registered with Bright from the Start, Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning. We are exempt from licensure and a letter of exemption is posted in the school office or after school room.

21st CCLC Grant Program

In July of 2019, the Douglas County School System, in partnership with Communities in Schools of Douglas County, completed the renewal year of our 5 year grant. This federally funded grant program is known as Factory Transition, and it serves 3 schools in the Douglas County School System:  Factory Shoals Elementary, Factory Shoals Middle, and New Manchester High. The Factory Transition program is designed to establish or expand after school programs (ASP) that provide students with academic support and enrichment opportunities, along with learning activities designed to complement the students’ regular school day academic program. Our grant goals and objectives are to:   increase student achievement in all academic areas, decrease behavioral incidents, improve homework completion and submission, decrease student absences, increase parental involvement, increase staff development skills, increase partnerships, and promote social emotional learning. Educational experiences provided through the Factory Transition program are specifically designed to instill in the students a lifelong love of learning.

Registration Requirements

Parents are required to attend an orientation session each year before students are allowed to attend the program.  Parents must complete a student registration form either before or during the orientation session.

Attendance 

Just like the students are needed here for their optimal learning experiences during a regular school day, we also need our students here every day for ASP or what we call “Knight School”.  The more days your child is in school, the more they are learning!  The 21st CCLC Program requires students to attend a minimum of 2.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday.
